 पारिजात वृक्ष को औषधिय गुणों की खान कहा जाता है, पारिजात वृक्ष से जन आस्था जुडी हुई है। इस वृक्ष की विशेषता यह है कि इसमें कलम नहीं लगती, इसी कारण यह वृक्ष दुर्लभ वृक्ष की श्रेणी में आता है। हिन्दू धर्म ग्रंथो में पारिजात के बारे में कई किवदंतिया प्रचलित हैं। पारिजात वृक्ष से जुड़ी पौराणिक कथाएं बहुती ही रोचक हैं आइए जानते हैं इनके बारे में.....

एक मान्यता के अनुसार परिजात वृक्ष की उत्पत्ति समुंद्र मंथन से हुई थी। जिसे इन्द्र ने अपनी वाटिका में रोप दिया था। हरिवंश पुराण के अनुसार पारिजात के अदभुद फूलों को पाकर सत्यभामा ने भगवान कृष्ण से जिद की कि पारिजात वृक्ष को स्वर्ग से लाकर उनकी वाटिका में रोपित किया जाए। श्री कृष्ण ने पारिजात वृक्ष लाने के लिए नारद मुनि को स्वर्ग लोक भेजा मगर इन्द्र ने उनके प्रस्ताव को ठुकरा दिया जिस पर कृष्ण ने स्वर्ग लोक पर आक्रमण कर दिया और पारिजात प्राप्त कर लिया। पारिजात छीने जाने से रूष्ट इन्द्र ने इस वृक्ष पर कभी न फल आने का श्राप दिया। पारिजात वृक्ष का उल्लेख भगवत गीता में भी मिलता है।

पारिजात वृक्ष का उल्लेख पारिजातहरण नरकवधों नामक अध्याय में भी किया गया है। हरिवंश पुराण में ऐसे ही एक वृक्ष का उल्लेख मिलता है, जिसे छूने मात्र से देव नर्तकी उर्वशी की थकान मिट जाती थी। पारिजात वृक्ष कल्प वृक्ष का ही एक प्रकार है। इसका वैज्ञानिक नाम एडेनसोनिया डिजीटाटा है। इसका फूल खूबसूरत सफेद रंग का होता है जो कि सूखने के बाद सुनहरे रंग का हो जाता है। इस फूल में पांच पंखुड़ियां होती हैं। किवदंती के अनुसार इसकी शाखायें सूखती नहीं बल्कि सिकुड़ जाती हैं तथा शुष्क तने में ही समाहित हो जाती हैं।

According to one belief, the Parijat tree originated from the sea churning. Which was planted by Indra in his garden. According to Harivansh Purana, after getting the adorned flowers of Parijat, Satyabhama insisted on Lord Krishna that Parijat tree be brought from heaven and planted in his garden. Shri Krishna sent Narada Muni to heaven to bring the Parijat tree, but Indra refused his offer, on which Krishna attacked the heaven world and got Parijat. Individed by Parijat being snatched, Indra cursed never to bear fruit on this tree. The Parijat tree is also mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita.

The Parijat tree is also mentioned in the chapter called Parijataharan Narakavadhas. One such tree is mentioned in the Harivansh Purana, by touching it, the fatigue of the god dancer Urvashi was erased. Parijat tree is a type of kalpa tree. Its scientific name is Adensonia digitata. Its flower is beautiful white color which turns golden color after drying. This flower has five petals. According to legend, its branches do not dry up but shrink and get absorbed in the dry stem itself.
