History of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga ओम्कारेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग का इतिहास

एक बार मुनिश्रेष्ठ नारद ऋषि घूमते हुए गिरिराज विन्ध्य पर पहुँच गये। विन्ध्य ने बड़े आदर-सम्मान के साथ उनकी विधिवत पूजा की। 'मैं सर्वगुण सम्पन्न हूँ, मेरे पास हर प्रकार की सम्पदा है, किसी वस्तु की कमी नहीं है'- इस प्रकार के भाव को मन में लिये विन्ध्याचल नारद जी के समक्ष खड़ा हो गया। अहंकारनाशक श्री नारद जी विन्ध्याचल की अभिमान से भरी बातें सुनकर लम्बी साँस खींचते हुए चुपचाप खड़े रहे। उसके बाद विन्ध्यपर्वत ने पूछा- 'आपको मेरे पास कौन-सी कमी दिखाई दी? आपने किस कमी को देखकर लम्बी साँस खींची?’

नारद जी ने विन्ध्याचल को बताया कि तुम्हारे पास सब कुछ है, किन्तु मेरू पर्वत तुमसे बहुत ऊँचा है। उस पर्वत के शिखरों का विभाग देवताओं के लोकों तक पहुँचा हुआ है। मुझे लगता है कि तुम्हारे शिखर के भाग वहाँ तक कभी नहीं पहुँच पाएंगे। इस प्रकार कहकर नारद जी वहां से चले गए। उनकी बात सुनकर विन्ध्याचल को बहुत पछतावा हुआ। वह दु:खी होकर मन ही मन शोक करने लगा। उसने निश्चय किया कि अब वह विश्वनाथ भगवान सदाशिव की आराधना और तपस्या करेगा। इस प्रकार विचार करने के बाद वह भगवान शंकर जी की सेवा में चला गया। जहाँ पर साक्षात ओंकार विद्यमान हैं। उस स्थान पर पहुँचकर उसने प्रसन्नता और प्रेमपूर्वक शिव की पार्थिव मूर्ति (मिट्टी की शिवलिंग) बनाई और छ: महीने तक लगातार उसके पूजन में तन्मय रहा।

वह शम्भू की आराधना-पूजा के बाद निरन्तर उनके ध्यान में तल्लीन हो गया और अपने स्थान से इधर-उधर नहीं हुआ। उसकी कठोर तपस्या को देखकर भगवान शिव उस पर प्रसन्न हो गये। उन्होंने विन्ध्याचल को अपना दिव्य स्वरूप प्रकट कर दिखाया, जिसका दर्शन बड़े - बड़े योगियों के लिए भी अत्यन्त दुर्लभ होता है। सदाशिव भगवान प्रसन्नतापूर्वक विन्ध्याचल से बोले- ‘विन्ध्य! मैं तुम पर बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ। मैं अपने भक्तों को उनका अभीष्ट वर प्रदान करता हूँ। इसलिए तुम वर माँगो।’ विन्ध्य ने कहा- ‘देवेश्वर महेश! यदि आप मुझ पर प्रसन्न हैं, तो भक्तवत्सल! हमारे कार्य की सिद्धि करने वाली वह अभीष्ट बुद्धि हमें प्रदान करें!’ विन्ध्यपर्वत की याचना को पूरा करते हुए भगवान शिव ने उससे कहा कि- ‘पर्वतराज! मैं तुम्हें वह उत्तम वर (बुद्धि) प्रदान करता हूँ। तुम जिस प्रकार का काम करना चाहो, वैसा कर सकते हो। मेरा आशीर्वाद तुम्हारे साथ है।’

भगवान शिव ने जब विन्ध्य को उत्तम वर दे दिया, उसी समय देवगण तथा शुद्ध बुद्धि और निर्मल चित्त वाले कुछ ऋषिगण भी वहाँ आ गये। उन्होंने भी भगवान शंकर जी की विधिवत पूजा की और उनकी स्तुति करने के बाद उनसे कहा- ‘प्रभो! आप हमेशा के लिए यहाँ स्थिर होकर निवास करें।’ देवताओं की बात से महेश्वर भगवान शिव को बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई। लोकों को सुख पहुँचाने वाले परमेशवर शिव ने उन ऋषियों तथा देवताओं की बात को प्रसन्नतापूर्वक स्वीकार कर लिया।

वहाँ स्थित एक ही ओंकारलिंग दो स्वरूपों में विभक्त हो गया। प्रणव के अन्तर्गत जो सदाशिव विद्यमान हुए, उन्हें ‘ओंकार’ नाम से जाना जाता है। इसी प्रकार पार्थिव मूर्ति में जो ज्योति प्रतिष्ठित हुई थी, वह ‘परमेश्वर लिंग’ के नाम से विख्यात हुई। परमेश्वर लिंग को ही ‘अमलेश्वर’ भी कहा जाता है। इस प्रकार भक्तजनों को अभीष्ट फल प्रदान करने वाले ‘ओंकारेश्वर’ और ‘परमेश्वर’ नाम से शिव के ये ज्योतिर्लिंग जगत में प्रसिद्ध हुए।



Once, Munishreshtha Narada, the sage Giriraj reached Vindhya. Vindhya duly worshiped her with great respect. 'I am full of all virtues, I have all kinds of wealth, there is no shortage of anything' - Vindhyachal stood in front of Narada with this kind of feeling in mind. The egoist Shri Narada ji, listening to Vindhyachal's boastful things, stood quietly while taking long breaths. After that Vindhyaparvat asked- 'What deficiency did you see with me? What shortcoming did you take a long breath? '

Narada Ji told Vindhyachal that you have everything, but Mount Meru is much higher than you. The division of the peaks of that mountain has reached the realms of the deities. I think parts of your peak will never reach there. Saying thus Narada went away from there. Vindhyachal was very sorry to hear him. He was sad and started mourning in his heart. He decided that now he would worship and meditate on Lord Vishnath. After thinking like this, he went to the service of Lord Shankar. Where Sakshat Omkar exists. Arriving at that place, he happily and lovingly made Shiva's earthly idol (Shivling of clay) and remained continuously in his worship for six months.

After the worship and worship of Shambhu, he was constantly engrossed in his meditation and did not move from his place. Lord Shiva became pleased with him seeing his harsh penance. He showed his divine form to Vindhyachal, whose philosophy is very rare even for big yogis. Sadashiva God happily said to Vindhyachal - 'Vindhya! I am very happy with you. I offer my devotees their desired groom. That is why you ask for the groom. ”Vindhya said-“ Deveshwar Mahesh! If you are pleased with me, then devotee! Provide us the desired wisdom that accomplishes our work! ”While fulfilling the petition of Vindhyaparvat, Lord Shiva said to him -“ Parvataraja! I give you that best groom (wisdom). You can do whatever kind of work you want to do. My blessings are with you. '

When Lord Shiva gave the best groom to Vindhya, at the same time the gods and some sages with pure intellect and serene mind also came there. He also duly worshiped Lord Shankar ji and after praising him said to him - ‘Prabhu! May you stay here permanently and stay here. ”Lord Shiva was very pleased with the talk of the gods. God Shiva, who gave happiness to the people, accepted the words of those sages and deities happily.


The same Onkarling located there divided into two forms. The Sadashiva that existed under Pranav is known as 'Omkar'. In the same way, the flame which was revered in the earth idol became famous as 'Parmeshwar Linga'. Parmeshwar Linga is also called 'Amaleshwar'. In this way, these Jyotirlingas of Shiva named 'Omkareshwar' and 'Parameshwara', who gave the desired fruit to the devotees, became famous in the world.
